What is the COT Weekly Summary?

The COT Weekly Summary is a single-table overview of the latest CFTC Commitments of Traders release. Instead of one market at a time, it lists every major futures market in one scrollable view with this week's and last week's Non-Commercial, Commercial and Non-Reportable net positions plus the week-over-week change.

How is the Weekly Summary different from the Simplified report?

The Simplified report shows only Non-Commercial positions across all markets. The Weekly Summary shows all three trader categories (Non-Commercial, Commercial, Non-Reportable) for the latest week only, designed for cross-market scanning rather than time-series analysis.

When is the Weekly Summary updated?

The Weekly Summary refreshes every Friday at 3:30 PM Eastern Time when the CFTC releases new data. Positions are as of the previous Tuesday's close. When a US federal holiday falls on the Wednesday, Thursday or Friday of that week, the release moves to the next business day, usually the following Monday — a Monday holiday such as Labor Day does not delay it.

Why is the Commercial column often opposite to Non-Commercial?

Commercials are hedgers — they take futures positions to offset price risk in their underlying business. Speculators (Non-Commercials) provide the liquidity for those hedges, so the two categories are often net opposite. When Non-Commercials are net long, Commercials are usually net short, and vice versa.

Can I export the Weekly Summary?

CSV export is available on the Weekly Summary page for Premium subscribers. Anonymous and free-account users can take a screenshot using the camera icon in the toolbar — fully styled and watermarked for sharing on Twitter, Telegram or research notes.
