The CFTC publishes a new Commitments of Traders report every Friday at 3:30 PM Eastern Time, reflecting positions held as of the previous Tuesday's close — a 3-day reporting lag. When a US federal holiday falls on the Wednesday, Thursday or Friday of that week, the release moves to the next business day, usually the following Monday — a Monday holiday such as Labor Day does not delay it. Holiday delays in 2026

When a US federal holiday falls on the Wednesday, Thursday or Friday of a report week, the CFTC moves that week's release to the next business day. 6 releases are delayed in 2026:

  • Friday, January 2, 2026 (New Year’s Day) — released Monday, January 5, 2026
  • Friday, June 19, 2026 (Juneteenth) — released Monday, June 22, 2026
  • Friday, July 3, 2026 (Independence Day, observed) — released Monday, July 6, 2026
  • Friday, November 13, 2026 (Veterans Day) — released Monday, November 16, 2026
  • Friday, November 27, 2026 (Thanksgiving Day) — released Monday, November 30, 2026
  • Friday, December 25, 2026 (Christmas Day) — released Monday, December 28, 2026

The as-of Tuesday and the release time (3:30 PM ET) never change — only the publish day shifts forward.

About the release schedule

The CFTC Commitments of Traders (COT) report is a weekly snapshot of open positions held by futures traders on US exchanges. It is published every Friday at 3:30 PM Eastern Time and reflects data as of the close of business on the previous Tuesday. The CFTC uses that three-day gap to aggregate and verify the data.

Every release shown here is the Futures-Only report. The CFTC also publishes Disaggregated Futures-Only, Traders in Financial Futures, and Options-combined variants on the same schedule. When we add those pages to COT-Reports.com they will share this calendar: the timing is identical, only the report format differs.

Federal holidays occasionally push a Friday release to the next business day. The schedule above already accounts for every shift in 2026, so the dates you see are the actual publish days rather than the naive "every Friday" calendar.

Frequently asked questions

When is the next COT report released?+

The countdown at the top of this page shows the exact moment of the next release. Normally it's the upcoming Friday at 3:30 PM Eastern Time, but if a US federal holiday falls on the Wednesday, Thursday or Friday of that week, the release moves to the next business day — usually the following Monday.

Why does the CFTC publish on Fridays?+

The CFTC uses the three days between the Tuesday close-of-business snapshot and the Friday publication to aggregate, validate and anonymize the positioning data. The Friday 3:30 PM ET slot has been the standard since the early 1990s.

What is "data as of Tuesday"?+

Every COT report reflects open positions at the close of business on the Tuesday of the reporting week. That Tuesday snapshot is then published three days later, on Friday. The report is always three days old when you read it, by design.

Which holidays delay the release?+

Any US federal holiday (as observed) that falls on the Wednesday, Thursday or Friday after the Tuesday snapshot — in practice New Year's Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas, depending on the weekday they land on. Monday holidays such as Labor Day or Memorial Day come before the snapshot and don't delay it. The list above shows every shift for 2026.

Are Good Friday and Black Friday affected?+

Good Friday is not a US federal holiday — the CFTC publishes on schedule even though US equity markets are closed. Black Friday is different: Thanksgiving falls on the Thursday of that week, so the release always moves to the following Monday.
