How many futures markets does the CFTC report on?
The CFTC publishes weekly Commitments of Traders data for approximately +380 individual futures markets, plus combined and aggregated views for some categories. Coverage spans every major regulated U.S. futures exchange — CME, CBOT, NYMEX, COMEX, ICE Futures U.S. and the Minneapolis Grain Exchange.
Which asset classes are covered?
The CFTC covers eight broad asset classes in its COT data: agricultural commodities (grains, livestock, softs), energy (crude oil, natural gas, refined products), metals (precious and base), foreign currencies, U.S. Treasury and short-term interest rate futures, U.S. equity indices, volatility indices, and a few miscellaneous contracts (Bitcoin, weather, freight).
What is a CFTC market code?
Every CFTC-tracked market has a 6-digit market code (also called the contract identifier) that uniquely identifies it across the CFTC's data files. For example, 088691 is gold futures on COMEX. COT-Reports.com uses these codes internally so you can deep-link to any specific market's report.
How often is the market list updated?
The CFTC adds new markets when an exchange lists a new futures contract that meets the reporting threshold. COT-Reports.com syncs the master market list every week against the latest CFTC release, so newly added markets appear automatically without manual maintenance.
