About the Latest COT Report
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Latest COT Report?
The Latest COT Report is this week's CFTC Commitments of Traders snapshot in the Legacy Futures Only format. It shows long, short and net positions for three trader categories — Non-Commercial (large speculators), Commercial (hedgers) and Non-Reportable (small traders) — across every CFTC-tracked futures market.
When is the Latest COT Report updated?
The CFTC publishes a new COT report every Friday at 3:30 PM Eastern Time. The data reflects positions held as of the close of business on the previous Tuesday — there is a 3-day reporting lag. When a US federal holiday falls on the Wednesday, Thursday or Friday of that week, the release moves to the next business day, usually the following Monday — a Monday holiday such as Labor Day does not delay it.
What is the difference between Futures Only and Combined COT?
The Futures Only report includes positions in futures contracts only. The Futures and Options Combined report includes both futures and the futures-equivalent of options positions. The Latest COT Report on this page uses the Futures Only (Legacy) format — the most widely cited COT version.
How do I read the Net Position column?
Net Position equals Long minus Short for the trader category. A positive number means the category is net long the market (more bullish exposure than bearish); a negative number means net short. Week-over-week changes show whether the category increased or decreased its exposure.
