Data Sources

Every number on COT-Reports.com is fetched directly from an official government agency or central bank via their public API. This page lists every source we use and explains how often we refresh each dataset.

Last updated: 2026-05-17

1. U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC)

Our primary source is the CFTC, which publishes the Commitments of Traders (COT) reports every Friday at 3:30 PM Eastern Time. We ingest the Futures-Only, Disaggregated, Traders in Financial Futures and Options-combined variants directly from cftc.gov. Full release schedule including holiday delays is on our CFTC Release Schedule page.

2. Macroeconomic data (FRED, BLS, BEA, Fed, ECB, Eurostat, ONS, BOE)

The Economic Calendar pulls from multiple agencies: the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis (FRED) for historical time series, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) for NFP, CPI, PPI and unemployment, the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) for GDP, PCE and trade balance, the Federal Reserve for FOMC decisions and minutes, the European Central Bank and Eurostat for Eurozone data, the UK Office for National Statistics and Bank of England for UK data.

3. Update frequency

The CFTC schedule is ingested once per year (static) and republished on this site. COT data is refreshed every Friday after 3:30 PM ET. Economic calendar actual values are refreshed automatically within minutes of each official release via a background job that polls the source APIs. The page you are reading updates on the next request after the data lands.

4. Attribution & licensing

All data remains the property of its respective issuing agency. United States federal government works (CFTC, BLS, BEA, Federal Reserve, FRED) are released into the public domain under 17 U.S.C. §105 and are republished here without further license restrictions beyond proper attribution. European public-sector data is shared under the licensing terms set by each agency — typically the European Union Public Licence (EUPL) for EU-wide datasets, the UK Open Government Licence (OGL) for UK ONS / BOE series, and equivalent open-data terms for ECB and Eurostat releases. Where agency guidelines request attribution, we provide it on the relevant page. The structured dataset metadata (Schema.org Dataset) embedded in each report page names the original creator and links back to the source.

5. Accuracy and revisions

Government statistics are routinely revised as more information becomes available. We reflect the current value as reported by the source; historical revisions may change numbers you previously saw. For trading decisions, please always verify critical values directly against the source.

6. Reporting a discrepancy

If you spot a number on COT-Reports.com that seems wrong compared to the official source, please email us with the page URL and the value in question. We investigate all reports within 48 hours and publish a correction if warranted.
