COT data in ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Cursor
Free to start · All +380 markets · 9 tools · Reviewed October 2026Add one address to your AI assistant and ask about the Commitments of Traders in plain language. It reads the latest CFTC report for all +380 markets from COT-Reports and cites the report date and the page.
What are large speculators doing in gold this week?
Your assistant calls COT-Reports, reads the latest CFTC report for gold — long, short and net position of every trader group, the weekly change — and answers with the report date and a link to the page.
What is the COT-Reports MCP server?
The COT-Reports MCP server connects AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Cursor and VS Code to the weekly CFTC Commitments of Traders data through the Model Context Protocol (MCP). Add https://mcp.cot-reports.com as a connector and ask in plain language: the positions of speculators and hedgers, weekly changes and open interest for all +380 markets.
- Without an account the assistant reads the Legacy reports for the last 26 weekly reports and the COT index over 26 or 52 weeks.
- A free account adds 10 years of history and every COT index window.
- COT Premium adds the full history, every report family, positioning extremes and close prices.
Add COT-Reports to your AI app
One address works everywhere. You can start without an account; when you want more, the app asks you to sign in to COT-Reports — a free account is enough for 10 years of history.
Claude — claude.ai, Claude Desktop and the mobile app
Step by step, as Claude shows it in October 2026 — app menus get renamed from time to time; the server address stays the same.
In Claude, open Customize → Connectors, click + Add, then Add custom connector.
Name: COT-Reports. Server URL:
https://mcp.cot-reports.com. Then Continue.- Important
Authentication: to use your COT-Reports account — a free account or COT Premium — choose Sign in now. Choose No sign in only to try the level without an account.
- Important
OAuth client: choose Register automatically. Claude recommends Use Claude's published identity, but COT-Reports does not support that option yet — it fails.
Click Add, then Connect. The COT-Reports page opens: sign in (or create a free account) and click Allow.
The connector lists 9 tools. Claude asks before a tool runs; they only read COT data, so Allow always is safe.
In a chat, open + → Connectors and switch COT-Reports on. Claude Desktop and the mobile app use the same connector — it belongs to your Claude account. The free Claude plan allows one custom connector.
Picked No sign in or the published identity by mistake? Sign-in settings cannot be changed afterwards: remove the connector and add it again.
ChatGPT
Custom MCP servers need a paid ChatGPT plan — OpenAI's help page lists which plans include them.
Open Plugins, click + and add a custom MCP server (older accounts: Settings → Apps → Developer mode).
Name: COT-Reports. Server URL:
https://mcp.cot-reports.com. Authentication: OAuth. Confirm the risk notice, then sign in to COT-Reports and click Allow. In a chat, type @ and pick COT-Reports. ChatGPT's menus changed in 2026 — if a label differs, look for “custom MCP server”.
Gemini app (web and mobile)
As of October 2026, custom apps in Gemini need a personal Google Account (not work or school), in the US, in English, age 18+, with Keep Activity on.
On a computer, open gemini.google.com → Settings → Connected Apps. Under Custom apps, choose Add a custom app, paste
https://mcp.cot-reports.comand click Next.Signing in to COT-Reports from the Gemini app is not available yet: Gemini reads the level without an account (the last 26 weekly reports), and a question that needs more history is refused. Once added, the app also works in the Gemini mobile app.
Claude Code
Run this in your terminal (
--scope useradds it to every project). In Claude Code, type
/mcp, pick cot-reports and sign in to COT-Reports in the browser that opens.
claude mcp add --transport http --scope user cot-reports https://mcp.cot-reports.comVS Code (GitHub Copilot)
Click Install in VS Code below, run MCP: Add Server from the command palette, or add this to
.mcp.jsonat your project's root (VS Code still reads the older.vscode/mcp.json).When the server starts, VS Code asks you to trust it. The first time a question needs more than the level without an account (the last 26 weekly reports), it asks you to sign in: sign in to COT-Reports and click Allow. Then ask in Copilot Chat.

The server works with every app that supports remote MCP servers over HTTP — the tabs above are only the best-known ones.
Open the app's MCP settings and add a remote server — it may be called Add MCP server, custom connector or remote server.
Server URL:
https://mcp.cot-reports.com. Transport: HTTP (sometimes “Streamable HTTP”), not stdio.Signing in to COT-Reports from an AI app works today in Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code, and Gemini CLI; other apps may not sign in yet. Without sign-in the app reads the level without an account (the last 26 weekly reports) — or send a Data API key in the Authorization header.

In a new chat with COT-Reports switched on, ask:
It works if the answer:
- shows the tool
get_release_schedulewas called - names the CFTC report date and the next release
- links to a COT-Reports page
The latest CFTC report has positions as of Tuesday, 29 September 2026, released Friday, 2 October 2026. The next release is Friday, 9 October 2026 at 3:30 PM ET. cot-reports.com/cftc-release-schedule
Not working?
What you see, and what fixes it.
ClaudeClaude never asks me to sign in, and I only get 6 months
You kept No sign in at step 3. Sign-in settings cannot be changed afterwards: remove the connector, add it again and choose Sign in now.
ClaudeConnecting fails right after I click Connect
You chose Use Claude's published identity at step 4 — COT-Reports does not support it yet. Remove the connector, add it again and choose Register automatically.
Any appThe connector shows 0 tools
The sign-in did not finish. Disconnect and connect again, then click Allow on the COT-Reports page. Check that the address is exactly https://mcp.cot-reports.com, with nothing after it.
ChatGPTI can't find where to add a custom MCP server
Custom MCP servers need a paid ChatGPT plan (OpenAI's help page lists which ones). The option is under Plugins → +; on older accounts, under Settings → Apps → Developer mode.
GeminiGemini shows no “Custom apps” section
Custom apps need a personal Google Account in the US, in English, age 18+, with Keep Activity on.
Disconnect an app
In your COT-Reports account, open Connected AI apps and click Disconnect — the app stops at its very next request. You can also remove the connector in the app itself.
Already have a COT Data API key?
Apps that accept a header can use your Data API key instead of signing in: every market and report family in raw form, counted together with your REST API calls (one key, one plan: the same limits on the REST API and the MCP server). All the keys of one account share these limits, on the REST API and the MCP server together.

Questions about the MCP server
Can’t find your answer? Write to contact@cot-reports.com and tell us which AI app you are connecting.
What is MCP?
MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that lets AI assistants use outside services. With the COT-Reports MCP server, your assistant reads the CFTC Commitments of Traders data from COT-Reports instead of guessing from the web.
Is it free?
Yes, to start: without an account the assistant reads every market for the last 26 weekly reports, with the COT index over 26 or 52 weeks; a free account adds 10 years of history and every COT index window. The full history, every report family, positioning extremes and close prices come with COT Premium.
Which AI apps work with it?
Any app that supports remote MCP servers over HTTP: Claude (web, desktop and mobile), ChatGPT (custom MCP servers), Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code with GitHub Copilot, Windsurf, Gemini CLI and others. Signing in (for more history) works in Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code, and Gemini CLI (VS Code: the desktop app); on a remote extension host, use a COT Data API key instead. Editors that run inside a web browser (VS Code for the Web, github.dev) are not supported — use the desktop app.
How fresh is the data?
The same data as the website: the CFTC publishes the report every Friday at 3:30 pm US Eastern, and COT-Reports updates within minutes. Every answer with COT data names the report date.
What does my AI app see when I sign in?
Only that you are signed in and which plan you have, so the server knows how much history to return. The app cannot read or change your account, your saved markets or your payments, and you can disconnect it at any time from the app.
I have a COT Data API key — can I use it?
Yes. Apps that accept a header (Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code…) can send your key as a Bearer token: every market and report family in raw form, counted together with your REST API calls (one key, one plan: the same limits on the REST API and the MCP server). Positioning extremes and close prices are part of COT Premium; the COT index is included at every window. All the keys of one account share these limits, on the REST API and the MCP server together.
